Secret Love

Today I was going through my youngest son Sunday school book, just checking what he had learned in class. And on one of the pages I found these scribblings...

'I love you Madeline'

not too clear (apparently he tried to erase the evidence) but still readable.

I was just shocked... I was wondering what he'd been doing during Sunday classes. My son is in love! Just who the heck is this Madeline woman??

So I interrogated him on who this woman was. He denied it at first but after showing him the incriminating evidence in his book, he asked me to promise him that I won't tell a soul about it. Since I was eager to know about this Madeline mystery, I agreed and he told me (sheepishly) that it was a girl in his Sunday class.

And I asked why he was in love with her... and he said (without hesitation) that she was pretty! I laughed my head off till I cried. Imagine that my 8 year old baby has fallen in love. And I thought this won't happen until much, much, much later... sighhhh...

I haven't seen this pretty Madeline, but I believe him. It's probably just a phase and he'll forget about her once he sees another pretty girl. Boys will be boys...

  1. Whoa, you got a regular playboy for a son huh ... LOL! At that age I was still so shy (am still am ... LOL) of girls. Man, wait till he's a teenager, you're gonna have to be chasing all the women away with a broom or something ... LOL!

I suppose it's easy for the rest of to say that hearing your 8 year old son being in love is an adorable thing, but being a parent to one of these children, it must be an odd feeling.

  9. Haizum - Hi! Welcome to Mumblings:)

I wondered why he wrote that and if he really understood the meaning of love... but I can't take it seriously, after all he's just 8. I'm sure he had too much of adult TV, I had better make sure he watches cartoons:)

  10. Cindy, I never expected to see that, not in his Sunday class book. It's probably a confession of some sort! LOL

Well, he did describe how Madeline looked, long hair and fair skinned... I never did search for her though!

  13. Haha, you'll never know how soon kids 'fall in love' these days. Lol, i used to like a girl in Sunday school too (and i'm still loyal to her *blush* - of course she's not there anymore) and i think it was because she was pwetty and sweet.

Children easily get attached to anyone who treats them nice or acknowledges them (which is dangerous in some cases). Doesn't have to someone the same age, even older big 'sisters' are love-worthy.

One think i noticed though, i never really knew how old anyone was those days. It's either they were adults or kids... that's all. Anyone who looked your age at that time could become your girlfriend/boyfriend. Haha..

    I'm exposing everything. BYE!

  14. Ann - He doesn't want to get married, that's what he told me! Wait till he's in his 20's or something...

I don't dare to take her picture la, I don't want to upset her parents... hmmm, maybe I should get to know the parents more! LOL

Yeah, I promised but I guess it wouldn't hurt him if he doesn't know I broke my promise... bad mommy!:D

  15. MenopausePrincess - Yeah, we mothers would love to be the only woman in our sons' life! :D

Hmmm... I hope he'll be able to take his first heartbreak. But then again, he'll probably be the one causing the heartbreak!! LOL

  16. Marzie, I can't seem to remember my first crush. Maybe it was my neighbour, he sent me a love letter when I was just 9 and he was 11!!

I also remember a boy in my class ( I was in primary 2) who kissed me on the cheek, I hated him so much but was terrified of him... he's probably a gangster now! Hehehe

  18. Hi usws! Welcome to Mumblings:) Thanks for dropping by and leaving your comment:)

I always tell my kids to be wary of strangers especially when they offer treats. It's a dangerous world out there for young and innocent kids.

I guess when you already like someone, his/her age become irrelevant.

Feel free to 'expose' everything, I love to hear them! Haha

  21. Ha ha ha ...gangster it seems!! Funny la u Nessa! Kelvin was a tall Chinese boy who had the softest brown hair, but I got over him after I accidentally knocked into him and he bawled like a baby, and got ME in trouble for it! :):):)

  22. Marzie, well, he did look the part and acted like one!

Kelvin reminds me of an ex-BF (a Chinese), I thought everything was great until one day he left me to continue his studies. I was heartbroken, but I told myself it was HIS lost... not mine:)
