Eat, Drink & Be Merry
On Saturday, I took the kids to Subang Parade. I haven't really taken them out for a while and besides my youngest boy kept complaining about not going out much. So they were really looking forward to the outing. My youngest who is 8 years loves these kind of outings. Who wouldn't as he is an extremely hyper active boy mostly cooped up at home throughout the week, aside from attending school. I used to work here about 6 years ago and so much has changed since then. I mean, I've been there on and off and they were in the midst of re-branding themselves with a look and this is my first time I've been there since they completed the re-branding.
As usual, when you shop and walk around a lot you tend to get hungry (especially the two boys). I was about to step into Nando's for lunch (I was lured by Cindy's mouth watering post!!) when I remembered the kids don't eat chicken especially my eldest who is 12 years old. He only eats noodles, rice, fries and sausages!! So I decided to go elsewhere, somewhere where they have food the kids can eat. I didn't want to go to McDonald's (how utterly boring) and besides the place was already packed to the brim! (weekend what!) While walking aimlessly trying to find a more suitable place to eat, I spotted Dave's Deli on the 1st floor and so we headed there.
I love eating at Dave's Deli though I haven't been there in ages. I've always enjoyed their Oxtail Soup (yummy). Imagine my disappointment when that dish was no longer available:( Don't tell me I am the only fan of the soup that it was discontinued. Well, it was on the menu, but was crossed out, hopefully it was just out of stock only. The kids were already seated so I ordered kiddy meal (eggs, ham, french fries and sausage with coleslaw) for them and Beef Rissole (one of my other favourite) for myself. Their meal came in about 5 minutes but I had to wait close to 20 minutes for mine. Made me wonder if they had to slaughter a cow first!! I hate waiting... I admit I have very little patience in me when I'm hungry... hehehe.. but when it eventually came, it was as delicious as ever:) The boys sure enjoyed tucking into their meal (as the picture above illustrates).
Anyway, while waiting for the food to arrive, there was this blind couple (who suspiciously didn't look at all blind) came over to our table to solicit for donations. Now, I hate these kind of things to happen especially while waiting for my food on a hungry stomach at that... grrrrr!!! Before I'm accused of being an insensitive moron, I do have a heart for people with disabilities. If the cause was genuine I'd give without a seconds hesitation but you can always feel it in your gut when people are faking it and I believe these two were definite fakes. I guess my 'instinct' was proven right cause everyone else also gave them the cold shoulder.
After lunch we went around looking at stuff. We went fiddling with toys at Toys R Us, ate ice cream at the Ice Kimo stall and wandered around looking at home appliances; admiring shoes and handbags on sale. I was tempted to buy but told myself it wasn't necessary. (Huh! If I had loads of money that wouldn't have worked on me! LOL)... I used to be able to walk for hours but now I only lasted for 2-3 hours before I had to head home cos my feet were killing me. The boys weren't too happy with that though:). I did manage to buy a bed spread originally costing RM189.00 for RM36.00 (it was on sale and it's 100 percent cotton). Worthwhile buy I must say!

Ooh! happy to see the smiles on their faces! Hugs from their aunty.
ReplyDeleteI miss shopping but my paypal is quite weak right now. Have to stop for a while.
Delicious food you all had there... I am drooling the whole time. Miss all those foods!
Your kid doesn't like chicken? Wow, that's special. Hehehehe. No KFC la for him dat? :D
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had fun there too. RM36 for a bed spread.. WOW! Now that's what I call great bargain!!
Nessa
ReplyDeleteGood bargain for your bed spread. I miss the food and my friends in Subang Jaya.
Your son can give me all the chicken and I can give him all my noodles.
Ann - Oh, those boys sure enjoyed themselves. I had a hard time just chasing around after them ... hehehe.
ReplyDeleteCindy - Yup, he eats fries only at KFC or McD, doesn't even eat pizza! I get to eat all the chicken... hehehe
Hi Jesie! My son would adore you for that:)
Whoa, looks like someone had a great weekend:) I love the oxtail soup too. Hopefully they didn't discontinue it la. Now, I feel like having some oxtail soup too ... and it's only Monday morning ... arggghhh! LOL!
ReplyDeletethey dont eat chicken at all?lucky you getting all the chicken!!wah sedapnya they eat..
ReplyDeleteWhat a good deal for that bed spread, I love browsing beddings...
ReplyDeleteHey MD! I'm gonna check out the other Dave's Deli outlets, they might still have the soup:)
ReplyDeleteShana - The youngest actually eats everything... hehehe. The eldest too fussy with food.
Jewelle - Yeah, I could spend hours at Ikea & Macy's as well:)
Subang Parade? How nostalgia! I haven't been in... let me think, 16 years?! Oh what a shame to miss out on all the good food in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteI love reading mom blogs from other countries. I'm from Canada and I can't get my son to eat chicken unless it's in the form of chicken nuggets from McDonalds. I guess kids are pretty similar no matter where they are from.
ReplyDeleteNessa, I like the new SP colour, everything looks so much nicer from the outside now, specially cold storage, looks very "overseas"... LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteMother Hen - 16 years?? That's a mighty long time. Not much has changed, better mix of tenants and new paint-scheme.
ReplyDeleteHi Tammy Duplessie! Glad to see you here. Yup, kids will be kids:)
Mariuca - I love shopping at Cold Storage! More expensive but much cleaner than the local marts. They have more foreign products too:)
I would not like having someone solicit while I was trying to eat either. Im surprised they were not asked to leave. You did well to last so long as you did. It's difficult keeping up with children of any age.
ReplyDeleteHi David! Yeah, I want to enjoy my food without being interrupted... I hate sales people too. I know it's their job but I think they shouldn't approach people when they're eating or enjoying something.
ReplyDeleteNessa! I know what u mean, sometimes we want variety! I like the CS at Ikano too but customer service there not too good! ;)
