Today being the first day of the holy month of Ramadhan, I'd like to wish my fellow Muslim friends a wonderful fasting month. Selamat Menyambut Bulan Ramadhan! In another month, we'll be celebrating 'Hari Raya Puasa'... yay!! I love these celebrations :D I'm indeed lucky to be born in Malaysia as we are a nation of multi cultures and that gives me the chance to celebrate many different festivals here. I can celebrate Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali, all these being the main festival for the Christians, Chinese, Malays and Indians respectively.
My uncle converted to Muslim when he married his wife, more than 30 years ago. I remember joining the family during the fasting month. My sister and I tried to fast but it was difficult. How could we when my aunt thoughtfully prepared food for the 2 of us because we're Christians. To be able to fast for a whole 30 days is a mighty feat, you need courage, faith and the strength to withstand temptations.
During this month, you could find stalls or bazaars in almost every corner of the country. This evening I was so excited to go to the bazaar, it was kinda late... about 6.15pm since I had to wait for my son (the sarcastic one) to come home from school. I decided not to cook knowing that there would be plenty of food to buy. I think this will be a normal routine every day. Aiyoh! Pokai lah:(
When we reached the place, it was so crowded that it was absolutely difficult to move around. I had 2 kids with me so I was holding their hands, afraid they might get lost in the crowd. Since it was the first day of the fasting month, the crowd was super duper crowded and it was tough getting through... I had to actually fight my way into the stalls to buy the food the kids wanted.
Since it was kinda late, I was disappointed as most of the food had run out. I couldn't even find a single Malay cake, my favourite is the 'Tepung Pelita'... I wanted to go to this particular stall but the queue was exceptionally long!! In the end all we bought were 2 packets of drinks! Oh well, there's always tomorrow and for the next 28 days or so. Lucky me!!:D I'm going to the stalls earlier tomorrow. Once bitten, twice shy...
And sis, don't you wish you were here... hehehe...
Ya bah... kita ni kalah-kalah orang puasa. Berabis wanna get those foods from the Ramadhan Bazaaar. LOL!
