PB Visa Electron... The Way To Wealth!

A fellow blogger 'usws' commented in my blog about his difficulty in getting paid by PayPal since he didn't have a credit card. Well, I had the same predicament not too long ago, until I found out that you can get paid by using PB (Public Bank) Visa Electron Debit Card. To Paypal both credit and debit cards are the same.

It was a rather harrowing experience for me initially since I've already started doing paid postings, got paid but I didn't have a verified account to receive my payment at PayPal. You can imagine my frustrations when I see the money but wasn't able to use it. It's like somebody dangling a carrot at you!

When I found out about PB Visa Electron Debit Card, I wasted no time and registered online through their website and mailed the printed application form the next day. I waited and waited until 3 weeks later, I decided to call their customer service. I was heart-broken when they told me that they have not received my application and I would have to go to their headquarters in KL if I wanted it fast. What's the point of putting an online application when they don't even accept it in the first place... grrrr! Man, I was seething, I think I could have put the green hulk to shame!

So, the next day I submitted my application 'by hand' to the girl on the 10th floor of PB office. I made sure everything was in order to save myself from having to go there again. Going through KL's traffic on a working day is not what I want to go through again.

Exactly 1 week later, I received a letter from them to collect my card! I was jumping up and down for joy! After collecting my card, I submitted my debit card account number with Paypal and it was accepted immediately... Phew! It took about a week's time for PB notice to reach me. You need to enter the 4-Digit number from your PB card statement (xxxxPAYPAL -- EXPUSE) and key it into PayPal and you're verified.

And that's all it takes... piece of cake, ya? ;)

Since I probably saved you from despair, I could use a little donation (red faced!). See the little button on the top right hand side of my side bar, click on it! Hahahahaha...

  1. I know what you mean about the hassles of getting verified and stuff at Pay Pal, especially in Malaysia.

But it's a little easier now and your post about it is sure going to be helpful to those newcomers :)

  2. MD - I did googled extensively about it, but couldn't get what I wanted to know. That's why I posted this, to help my fellow bloggers:) I hope they find it helpful.

  7. That's good. I've submitted my credit card number to Pay Pal last month and was accepted, but I didn't quite understand about the Expanded Use Program. My account status is still showing 'Unverified'. What about yours?

  8. Ratu Syura - I've never heard of VMI card. Yeah, it's pretty easy... once you fill in the form (make sure you send it personally), it's all smooth sailing after that:)

  9. Nick - Say what? USD1... only??LOL

  10. Crystal - My account is already 'verified':D

First, find the 'expanded use' link somewhere on the top left hand corner in Paypal site. Follow instructions and Paypal will charge you USD1.95 for 'expanded use' fee but it's refundable later.

Wait for your credit card statement, they'll be an entry on 'expanded use', take the 4 digit number and enter in Paypal.

    You should get verified instantly.

    Hope that's clear... good luck:)

  13. I wish i could donate, but i'm still very the broke. HAHA! Thanks for helping anyway..

Uhh, but about the debit card (MOL Freedom Unembossed Mastercard), i just got one too for going for some eBay Malaysia exhibiting thingy at OneU. Totally free and it even came with RM50 in it (which is gone now - will explain later).

SO, i CAN verify paypal now but i still have to get that number thingy. And the only way to do that is to topup or find an Eon bank branch (the debit card is issued by them). Haven't done either and thus still can't accept payments from PPP. SAD and very leceh!

Hmm, your money stayed eventhough your paypal wasn't verified? Mine got returned! OMG.. Lagi sad!! Too bad we still can't withdraw using our credit/debit cards. Booo..

    BYE!

p.s. The debit card i have has a crazy annual charge of RM20 (waived for the first year). That's like ALOT if i don't use it all that much or if i only top up RM50 like ONCE ever. Is yours any lower, if you don't mind me asking? I wanna cancel in case they start telling me I've got nothing left to deduct. LOL..

  14. Hi! about getting the paypal's "expanded use" 4-digit number. So after you enrolled at the paypal site, PBB will send you the notice with the 4-digit pin? DOes debit card user gets the monthly statement?
    Appreciate your advise.

  15. Oh my! I just read your comments today Usws! So sori ya :(

It's OK, I'm just kidding with the donation part... hehe.

I received an email from PPP informing me about my expiring payments (since I didn't have a debit card then). I requested that they retain my money until I got my card, which they did. Thank God :)

PB Card first year annual fee is waived. The following year you will be charged RM25.

But if you use your card to do online shopping or retail purchases, you'll get points and if you get enough redemption points, you could use the points to offset your annual fee :)

  16. Hi New User :)

Yes, you will get a monthly statement as a debit card user.

    1. Add your debit card to your Paypal account.

    2. Then click the expanded use section and they will deduct USD1.95 or something like that (refundable).

    3. Wait for your debit card statement which will show the transaction and get the 4 digit Expuse number shown on the statement. (depending on debit card issuer, you may be able to check statement online)

4.Key in this number to your paypal expanded use programme section and you're good to go.

Hope that helps. Good luck :)

  17. Hi! Nessa,
    Thanks, that definately helps.
I have the PBB Visa Electron card. I see that the amount has been deducted from my card but transaction not reflected in pbebank.com yet. Just wondering how I may get the 4-digit number.
So I will wait for my statement to arrive to continue with it.
    Again, thank you!

  18. New User ~ So sorry for the really late reply. I didn't see this till today, that is.

It will take a while before the transactions are reflected in the website (pbebank.com). That's the only drawback and you'll have to log in at least once a month or else your ID and password won't work anymore (as in my case!).

I hope everything is working well for you :)

  19. Hi all,
How do I add money to my PB debit card?
Do I have to go to PB, fill up a form and bankin the money?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Confused ~ You can either go to PB counter or their ATM's to bank in the money.

  21. Hi, I am Del, ya I was wonder why the PB Visa Electron that I used to withdraw my payment from Google Adwords was unapproved? What's wrong? thanks.

  22. Hi Del:) I wish I could help but I totally have no clue as to why they didn't approve your withdrawal. Maybe you should send your queries to both PB and Google's helpdesk. Good luck!
