My eldest boy handed me a letter from the school yesterday that needed my signature. It was a consent form for a compulsory Anti-Tetanus jab for all students at 15 years of age. So, I signed it and returned it to him. Today, he told me he didn't want to be jabbed. But I said he has no choice. It is crucial. So I started my lecture with 'what if one day a dog bites you or you step onto a sharp rusty nail...' That is what the jab is for. I had the same jab when I was 15 too, I told him.
He just looked at me as if I just made up the story. Then he told me he wouldn't be able to bowl (they have bowling sessions every Wednesday) if he got injected on his arm. I told him his teachers should be aware of that and would tell the doctor to jab his left arm instead of the right arm. I think he was just scared of being jabbed... maybe he has Trypanophobia. He was still not convince by the look on his face and kept on mumbling incoherent nonsense about the jab and trying to makeup all sorts of excuses... grrrrr...
Parenting is not an easy job. I think looking for Gutters Norfolk online would be so much easier than parenting. I think if his friends told him it was okay to be jabbed he would be much more convinced! Hrrrmmmmppphhhh!!!!
For your information, Tetanus occurs worldwide but is more common in hot, damp climates with soil rich in organic matter. The disease occurs almost exclusively in persons who are unvaccinated or inadequately immunized. This is particularly true with manure-treated soils, as the spores are widely distributed in the intestines and faeces of many non-human animals such as horses, sheep, cattle, dogs, cats, rats, guinea pigs, and chickens. Spores can be introduced into the body through puncture wounds. Do get yourself immunized if you haven't been vaccinated yet.
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteThey don't get that vaccination here after the age of 9, unless one get a wound that needs attention and a the doctor decides a shot is needed. Which is usually after 15 years after the last jab.
I so agree with youy...parenting is hard. We learn on the job, get as creative as you cant believe to get them to be safe and healthy and fed a nutritious meal. It is trying but it is well worth it. They grow up and for the most part thankful.
ReplyDeleteHe's 15--He knows EVERYTHING!! Tell him about lockjaw--what happens to you if you don't get vaccinated. That may change his mind. Or better yet, tell him you don't care if he gets it or not AFTER you tell him about lockjaw. If you make it his decision, odds are he'll get the shot.
ReplyDeleteIf he is like my teens, he's just looking for a rise out of you.
Aiyaaa, you pakat with one of his friends to say that if he gets the shot it'll make his bowling arm super strong la ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteKids! you just can't tell them anything. :)

Laane ~ Hi! Welcome to Mumblings :)
ReplyDeleteI had this vaccination when I was 15. That's why I remember. Thanks for dropping by and commenting :)
Philly ~ True. Kids will be kids... I was 'sort of' like my son too when I was his age.. LOL! Now that I'm a parent myself, I appreciate what my parents did for me and my siblings. And those days were even harder! Parenting requires loads of patience.
Lin ~ LOL! Yeah... teens know everything these days. My youngest boy who is just 11 listens to his friends more, which irks and disappoints me.
Sometimes I think he just loves to see me mad... geez! Yeah, I told him about Lockjaw. Even showed him some 'not-so-lovely' pictures caused by Tetanus... I think that helped a lot. He had the vaccine the very next day! LOL!
Spiffy ~ LOL! Now why didn't I think of that??!
Ann ~ Uh huh... I think I'll just shut my mouth next time and pretend I don't care. They say reverse psychology works, right? :)
iYda ~ Betul tu... dulu2 kalau pandai menjawab... 'pangg!' terus hinggap di pipi. Skrang, sume degil betul. Ish, gerammm...
Nia ~ Yup, that's the one. Dulu pun I takut... tapi cikgu kata mesti kene jab, takleh escape... hehe
Bain ~ E series... apakah itu??? ;)
LJ ~ I think something must be wrong somewhere if one loves to be jabbed kan... :D
No probs LJ. It was the least I could do. Rest in peace Minnie! ((hugs))
