Mobility Solutions

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you ever heard of NMEDA? Well, this is the first time I've heard of it... so I'm guessing you probably haven't heard of it too. National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is a non-profit trade association of mobility equipment dealers, driver rehabilitation specialist, assisting people with disabilities to drive or be transported in vehicles modified with mobility equipment.

NMEDA helps to educate consumers on buying products from NMEDA qualified dealers. They also promote safe driving and equipment for disabled people. Please take note that they do not sell anything. NMEDA dealers (members) are the ones who sell handicap vans and vehicle modifications for disabled people.

I have never had any experience with people with disabilities before. My closest encounter was during a visit to a Special Children's center when I was involved with Girl's Guide when I was just 13 years old . We handed out gifts and foodstuff to the handlers as most the children required attention, some of them were quite aggressive so they didn't allow us to mingle freely with the children. It was sad to see the children unable to move freely. Some were in wheelchairs, while some were still in baby cots even though they weren't babies anymore.

There is no such association here in Malaysia like NMEDA. It would certainly be of much help to the disabled over here cos some of them can work but do need their own transportation to get to work. The sad thing is, most of the vehicles here cannot be accessed by them and they find it hard to get around with public transport over here. I mean, I don't blame them, what with the hopeless state our public transport is in.

It really would be great if we had such an organization here to help them get vehicles that are specifically catered for the handicap or even just to modify the current vehicles on the road for them and get them started on the road to independence again. For those of you in the US, please feel free to head to nmeda.org, hit the dealers locator and type in your ZIP code to see if there is a qualified dealer near you.

Who knows, you might even decide to become a dealer yourself if there isn't one in your area.
