Remember this song by Cyndi Lauper? All you 80's kids should be familiar with it:) I never knew what the word 'bop' meant... until I did some searching today and boy, was I stunned! All this while I thought it was about dancing!
OK, let me write the first paragraph of the song...
We-hell-I see them every night in tight blue jeans -
In the pages of a blue boy magazine
Hey I've been thinking of a new sensation
I'm picking up - good vibration -
Oop - she bop
Who would have guessed this song is about masturbation! OK, hmmm... I'm having mixed emotions. I had a blast singing this song back then, I think it was sometime in 1984-1985. I had no clue whatsoever what the song meant then and I only got to know the real meaning of the song much later in life. The lyrics are considered mild compared to some of today's songs.
Cyndi Lauper did want her fans especially the young ones to think the song was about dancing. She knew the song wouldn't receive airplay if she stated the real meaning of the song. It worked because 'She Bop' is her 3rd highest charting and 3rd most commercially successful single worldwide, after Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time (extracted from Wikipedia). Well, I definitely learned a new word today:)
OK, now that's done, I'm going to have a look at Shopbop. Don't worry, this is one of the hottest women's fashion sites:) Shopbop carries a complete inventory of dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelries, sweater... the list is endless! You will get fantastic offers when you join the Shopbop community at Stylehive. A great way to start shopping for Christmas!

Sweetiepie - I don't have any chance too, I can't afford the price:(
ReplyDeleteI adore these clothes but I don't dare to wear 'sleeveless' ones... I'd wear them only if I've lost a few kilos, OK, maybe a lot of kilos! LOL

Hi Nessa! Interesting post. I never imagined that the word "bop" in the song would mean something so different to what I thought! I am going to look for the video on Youtube. I am thinking of the 80's after reading your post :) Great years!
ReplyDelete"Shopbop" looks like a very nice shop. It reminds a lot of Monsoon. Today I was window shopping and paid Monsoon a visit during my lunchbreak.
Cheers!
Have a nice day!
Hello La Delirante! Welcome to Mumblings :)
ReplyDeleteI love the 80's, fun and colorful music:) The music videos were innocent too compared to what we see now... too much skin.
Oh, I'd better check out Monsoon then. Thanks! Happy Thursday :D
Lol Nessa! You're really a funny person! I love how you write! I will certainly check ShopBop!
