How I wish I have a sewing machine. Just the other day, I had to manually sew both my sons' school badges on their uniforms. It wasn't easy, I tell you! I'm the type whose a stickler for perfection, so I had to re-sew the badges when the ones I've sewn ended up being crooked.
While I was at that, it reminded me of those days my mom used to sew clothes using an old sewing machine. She had that manual machine for as long as I can remember and every time I see it, it reminds me of her and the times she sewed till late at night just to complete her friend's clothes, she was swamped with clothes to sew especially before Christmas.
Now it is at my sister's place and she's sort of overtaken my mom's role as among the 5 of us, she is the skillful one when it comes to sewing. I would love to own one, the electronic type, of course. Who knows maybe I'll even pass it down to one of my future grandkids one day :D
Do you know...
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to sew clothes using any sewing machines? Old Singer kah new Singer kah...i'm so dumb with that thing oh. Even my younger brother is better than me in using my mother's old Singer sewing machine.
Nows you knows...
Hey, my dearly departed grandma had this old Singer machine too. I used to remember her sewing names on all our school uniforms back then cos we had a big family and she didn't want me and my cousins using the wrong clothes to school so she would sew small little initials of our names on all our things, uniforms, socks, handkerchiefs, underwear's even ... LOL! I don't really know what happened to that machine though. I'll bet it's worth some pretty decent money today. Maybe some museum might take it if I could find it ... LOL!
ReplyDeleteEver since I can remember Singer has been a household name in this country. I'm sure most people had those old Siinger sewing machines like what your mom had :D
ReplyDeleteI'm all thumbs when it comes to sewing! Of any kind! But I do remember when my mom bought a sewing machine (for the life of me, I don't know what the brand is!) and opened the packaging, everybody was huddled around. And everybody was so excited when she ran a cloth through it the first time! *chuckle* Oh, the good old days.
ReplyDeleteCarol - Reali? Tsk! Tsk! Hehe
ReplyDeleteSenang seja using the machine, learn slowly :) But I tau using manual ones only... never tried the electric ones.
Nick - I guess those days only Singer sewing machines were produced.
ReplyDeleteWah, your granny so cool... sew names some more... I can never do that! :(
Yup, those machines back then were built tough, now everything is made from cheap stuff...
MD - I still remember the jingle on TV back then... 'Singer menawan keluarga bahagia!' Hehe
ReplyDeletePeople used to buy electrical items from Singer those days (via installments), now Courts Mammoth is more popular ya.
Hey Haizum! Happy new year! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, now kids won't even lift an eye for stuff like sewing machines...
I used to be amazed how my mom managed to keep the sewing machine moving (manually) without stopping for a long time... I thot she had this super ability or something... hehe
prolly you can buy your own.. i'm suggesting Janome. i'm using it, and its really good... :)
ReplyDeleteHi Tinn Tinn! Welcome to Mumblings :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm seriously thinking of getting one. I've never heard of 'Janome' before. I'll check it out before I decide to buy one.
Thanks for dropping by, hope you'll be back :)
