I know... there's still 117 days more to Mother's Day but there is absolutely nothing wrong in posting about it earlier ya :) I've never really celebrated Mother's Day. My mom was more of the traditional type of mom... in fact, even her birthday was never celebrated, well, maybe just once... I think.
It wasn't because we (my sisters and I) didn't value her contributions, it wasn't much of a big deal back then. No one really ever heard of Mother's Day compared to Christmas or Easter. It wasn't that significant an occasion back then. It was only when we became grown ups and had jobs, and we became more aware of the significance of Mother's Day. Besides with the amount of awareness on it these days, you cannot not know about Mother's Day!
Those of you who think you know a thing or two about Mother's Day, I recommend you check out this great site called MothersDayCentral.com and you'd be surprised at some of the things you didn't know about this occasion. I know I was. There are so many things about Mother's Day that I never knew until I checked the site out. You will find loads of interesting topics, from the complete history of Mother's Day to loads of recommended fun activities that you may want to do for your mother on her special day as well as gift ideas, cards, recipes and flowers.
Unfortunately my mom is no longer around to try out some of the ideas I obtained from this site. If only we had stuff like these back then maybe my sisters and me could have done something special for mom. But I guess she knows we always treasured her each and everyday and not just on Mother's Day. Maybe my kids, once they've grown up may surprise me with something. My younger boy got me a rose for Mother's Day last year, a fake one but at least it lasts forever :D
I love Mother's Day.. But now instead of celebrating for one person, it's also a celebration for Shemah and sis in-law.. So Mother's Day is usually a big thing for our family! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not all that much into Mother's Day and such. In fact I don't ever recall doing anything for my mom on Mother's Day. It's like you said I guess, Mother's Day is not just once a year. How can one just designate only one day to honour out moms when the amount of work they put in all year round to make things run smoothly, they should declare Mother's Day for at least a whole month ... hehehe ...
ReplyDeleteYou're right sis.. am sure now she knows how much we love her.
ReplyDeleteThat is sweet of Darren to give you a rose.. I prefer fake rose cos they last forever.. good choice from him! :D
We as a family actually not celebrating this Mother's Day too but so far for 2 years managed to bring my mother to a very nice restaurant and some nice gifts for her during this day.
ReplyDeletethis year should be even better and more celebration after knowing so many mommies on the net, bloggers. I cannot wait what others gonna blog about it.
Syura - Yeah, all my sisters are married too. The most we do is wish each other a happy mother's day! And that's just about it... hehe
ReplyDeleteNick - A whole month?! Err... it's a day so it's supposed to be one day :P
ReplyDeleteYou don't want those companies/shops out there capitalizing on the 'month' too much ya. Not healthy for the purse/wallet either... hehe
Ann - Time sure flies ya... can't believe it's gonna be 3 years since mom left us. Rest in peace Ina dearest!
ReplyDeleteYa bah, such a sweet surprise... pandai vagu minongoi pomohi hud bookstore id sikul dau :)
PapaJoneh - So envy you still have your mom around... May she be blessed with health and happiness! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember a time I've ever went out with my mom for a treat... every time I asked her to go somewhere, she would be busy, have other plans. She wasn't the type who loves to makan angin... just wanted to work (kerja rumah, church activities, wanita) all the time.
Awww.. I can't wait to feel what it's like to receive a gift from the kids for mother's day. Not that I'm EXPECTING anything.. hahaha... but you know what I mean, right?? :D
ReplyDeleteShemah - Oh, I know what you mean. It's the anticipation... it doesn't matter what the gift is.
ReplyDeleteEven a simple drawing with a scribbled message of 'Happy Mommy's Day' makes one teary-eyed...
