The Tale Of Tuhau, MoneyPlants, ScrewPine Leaves And Sleeping Kids...

Yeah, it's a mouthful I know but I just couldn't think of a better title. I always have a problem when it comes to my posts titles. I think titles are important, you need catchy titles to draw in the readers, don't you think?

Here are a few more pictures from my trip back home a couple of months back. I know it's kinda stale already but it would be a waste if I don't share them cos they make a good blogging material and also works great as an interim post heehee.

My sisters did ask me to blog about them cos I kept snapping away. I took pictures of plants, that evil-eyed black not so friendly cat, my son washing my sister's Kancil, the car ya (not the Mouse deer)... making edible hats, which in turn earned me the nickname Kak Kuih Topi, tuhau, sunsets, my neighbor's house... etc... just the normal everyday stuff you see.

Just in case you're wondering what Tuhau is well, this is what Tuhau looks like after being cleaned and the skin removed. It's pungent, kinda smell like that insect which the locals call Posisang. My sisters love eating this but I don't cos I can't stand the smell. Just googled and I found out its scientific name is E. coccinea.

The first thing you do to make Tuhau is to cut up the stalks and slice them thinly. Some prefer to put them in a blender cos it's easier and faster but then it'll be stringy. I guess it all depends on one's preference.

Next, add salt and vinegar (according to taste) and diced red chillies. My sister also added bits of the Daun Lekiu, the bulbous bottom part. We call it bavang Tagaas in Sabah. I apologize to my English readers cos I don't know what's it's called in English.

My sister Lucy's thriving Money plant. She has another 2 bigger pots of these at home. I've tried growing this in KL but it doesn't seem to grow... it died shortly. Must be the extreme hot KL weather. I have no idea of its real name. Does anyone know?

The thriving Pandan (Screwpine leaves) shrubs growing around a dead Durian stump. Just loved how 'subur' they looked!

Urmmm... my youngest son (extreme left), my nephew (middle) and niece taking a nap after playing all day! They were shuffling (seems to be the rage these days) and listening to music and going up and down the stairs catching up on god-knows-what. I wonder what kids talk about when their parents are not listening... think

  8. Joe-Ann ~ We still sleep that way especially during the weekends when my sisters and their kids come over to sleep :)

Not enough beds for everyone, so we haul the mattresses out to the living room. It's nice seeing the kids bundled up like sardines. Sometimes they fight, cos everyone wants to sleep in front of the TV and right under the fan!
